I. WORKSHOP PRELIMINARY OVERVIEW
The Workshop is the second in the series "East Meets West" and is organised as an accompanying event of the 6th IFAC Symposium on Automated Systems Based on Human Skill which will take place at the same venue from September 17-19,1997.
The principal aims of the Workshop are:
- To discuss automation today in a way to particularly involve the end users of such systems in East and West countries.
- To present perspectives of process automation and promises of process reengineering in industrial enterprises based on theory and experience.
- To inform participants about national strategies of some West and East countries, concerning technological and organisational improvements in their industry,
- To facilitate collaboration between industrialists, Research/Development institutions, West and East countries.
The Workshop will be useful for everyone who has been involved in development, use and management of automated systems, and particularly for those who consider automated systems as an important part of technological infrastructure of industrial enterprises. Therefore, organisers are inviting researchers, IT developers, process engineers, SW/HW providers, managers and other interested audience to attend the event, taking advantage of an excellent opportunity to exchange knowledge, skills and experience. Beside regular participants of the Symposium, organisers expect also a good response from Slovene industrial enterprises.
The Workshop program extends over a whole day. In the morning, first introductory session will be presented, followed by two plenary lectures concerning strategic issues of the related field. After lunch, the sessions Automation as a Consistent Part of Enterprise-wide Control&Management Systems and Human Skills will take place. Both of them will emphasise group discussion, facilitated by individual presentations given by some authors of regular Symposium papers who will present their ideas twice but in different ways, and by the Workshop-only contributors.
