Social and Tourist Programme
for Participants and Accompanying Persons
All participants are invited to take part in the Get-Together Dinner
on Tuesday, September 16, 1997.
The other events of the social programme for the participants of the Symposium are focused on Friday, September 19, 1997. Some suggestions for organised as well as individual social activities are given below. A tourist programme for accompanying persons (similar to these suggestions) can be arranged, based on your wishes. Please indicate your interests and the number of persons for each of your options on the attached Social Program Interest Form. You will be able to register for your final social and tourist programme on the day of your arrival to Hotel pik. In any case, you are free to design and enjoy your own plan of discovering Slovenia before or after the Symposium and the related Workshop.
Special note: The proposed trips on Friday September 19, 1997 can be combined with optional transfer to the airport or Ljubljana if sufficient number of persons will be interested. Please, indicate your wishes and plans on the Social Programme Interest Form.
A) Suggestions for Organised Trips
Half-day guided bus trip to Bled
very famous Slovene tourist resort with lake and castle;
Programme: arrival to Bled and transfer by »pletna - boats« to the small island, a welcome toast with honey-wine and a small snack. After welcome reception a short organo concert in the small baroque church (dating from the year 1534). Return to the lake-shore and bus transfer to the Bled Castle - situated at the top of the rock, visit of the Castle Museum and return to Kranjska gora.

Half-day guided bus trip to Ljubljana - the capital of Slovenia.
The present city was built at the place of the former strategic Roman cross-road called Emona. Programme: Guided town sightseeing. Visit of the Slovene archive vines collection and wine tasting. Time for shopping.

Whole-day guided bus trip to the Alpine Trenta Valley
One of the most beautiful valleys in Europe. Programme: bus ride over the Vrič pass (altitude 1611 metres above sea level). Short stop for refreshment. By bus to Trenta Valley along the beautiful Soča river including several stops and short walks to different sites and visit to the new Triglav National Park Information Centre. Lunch on the way. Optional: rafting on the famous cayaking river Soča. Lunch included.

Whole-day bus trip to the Postojna Cave - via Ljubljana
Programme: visit of the world famous Postojna Cave, the diamond of the Slovenian Karst area. An electric train takes the visitors to its deepest recesses. The natural habitat of singular dweller of the darkness - the »proteus anguinus«. A light lunch in Postojna with tasting of the local Slovenian Karst specialities - air-dried ham called prut (italian: prosciutto) and dark-red wine Teran. On the way back stop and sight-seeing of Ljubljana - capital of Slovenia.

Whole-day guided trip to Bohinj - with a visit of Bled.
Programme: bus drive to Bohinj Lake - second largest lake in the Triglav National Park. Visit to the small church (St. John) and the scenic Waterfall Slap Savica. Option: ascent by cable car to the Vogel Ski resort - (1540m). Wonderful view over the lake Bohinj (extra price 15,- DEM). Lunch. After lunch return to Bled, visit to the island (by pletna-boats) and return to Kranjska gora.

B) Suggestions for Individual Trips:
- Whole-day or half-day guided walking and hiking around Kranjska gora - generously invited (no charges!) and safely guided by Dr. Dietrich Brandt (a former scout with excellent experience in hiking). More details to be negotiated with the guide (eventually express your wishes and ideas on the attached Post-Symposium Trips Interest Form).
- visit to Bled and walk through Vintgar - the narrow gorge of the river Radovna (3 - 5 hours). Guided by experienced Symposium participants from Slovenia.
The area surrounding Kranjska gora is attractive for short walks and longer excursions. Kranjska gora is also a very convenient starting point for mountaineering and hiking in the Triglav National Park.
